October 17 Sat Afternoon Boat Cruise. A few slots may be available for a 1:00pm-3:30pm boat trip aboard River Dolphin with Dolphin Charters. I will be the river guide with Captain Ronn Patterson. We’ll head north from the Vallejo Marina to Edgerly Island for this trip. I’ll share history of Mare Island and highlight the Napa River wetlands and wildlife as shorebirds and waterfowl begin to flock into the San Pablo Bay delta and Napa River region. SOLD OUT October 18 Sun morning Boat Cruise 10:00am-1:00pm "Water to Wine" Napa River Cruise during the Visions of the Wild H2O Festival hosted by the U.S. Forest Service and partners. I’ll be the river guide for this trip along with discussions about sustainable wine growing and water in the Napa Valley and Carneros regions. October 25, Sun afternoon 2-3:30pm Lost Boats of Mare Island Memorial for the 7 submarines lost at sea during WWII on the anniversary of the loss of the USS Wahoo, October 11, 1943. Dockside service, wreath-laying at Berth 6 Nimitz AVe and A St. Mare Island. (LCS-102 berth location) with a flag-raising beforehand at Morton Field at 1pm.

October 22-25, 29-31 and November 1 Thurs-Sun 4th annual scary times at the Preserve. NightMare Island no. 2 will be even scarier and more fun than ever. These are rain or shine events. We’ve added a theme to each night, like make-up classes and a costume supply vendor night, horror movie night, paranormal investigation night...and much more creepy stuff...along with our “standard fare” of zombies, scary bunker experiences, Naval Cemetery history tours with Dig-the Undertaker, and paranormal investigation tours. There’ll be a campfire (depending on spare the air) hot refreshments, and plenty of scare. We’ll light the trail to the Mare Island Hilltop, too. November 14 Sat 10:00am-12noon Hike the Historic Southshore with one of our experienced Preserve guides. Tentative, based on Navy permit. We’ll hike in the Preserve as an alternative. Meet at the visitor center. Rain or shine.

November 26 Thurs Thanksgiving Day at the Preserve. Regular hours 10:00am-a little after sunset. Thanksgiving Dinner potluck at the Visitor Center 3:00pm. We’ve got the turkeys covered. You bring something delicious to share. Rain or shine.

November 26 thru Jan 1 Mare Island Aglow Night Hiking and Gatherings at the visitor center. Join us for our “6th Annual Mare Island Aglow” holiday event at the Preserve. This year, due to cold, fog and let’s hope– rain...we’ll be holding evening music and gatherings in the visitor center. Come share a warm drink and snack, listen to music, watch a movie and shop for holiday gifts. Stay tuned for details. Want to get on the schedule to play music or show your favorite movie? December 20 Sun Holiday Tea and Bell ringing concert at the visitor center. Join us for a free tea 2-4pm. More details coming right up!

December 21 Mon Winter Solstice Party and evening hiking with nightime lighted trail. 3:00pm-8:00pm. Celebrate the Solstice in a traditional way with a bonfire (if spare the air and weather permits), a potluck supper 5:30pm-7:00pm and music (yes, you are invited to perform...let us know you will be playing). We’ve always had a special time on this evening. Come out to the Preserve to gather with friends and welcome winter!

December 25 Fri Christmas Day Open regular hours with a Christmas dinner potluck at 3pm at the visitor center. Rain or shine.

December 18 through Jan 3 Open daily for holidays including late on New Year’s Eve. Bring yourself for a little calm and peace during the season and family and friends for a time together away from the crazy that slips in sometimes at this time of year.

Your host for the event - "The man with one foot in the world of the living and the other foot six feet under..." is The Undertaker, and he has so much planned for your visit!

Join The Undertaker on a nightly tour of the Navy's oldest cemetery in the west, with graves dating back to the 1860's. Meet at the cemetery at 6:30pm. 

On November 1 (Dia de Los Muertos), follow a procession to the cemetery led by Soulseekers Paranormal Research & learn some of the techniques used to locate weary souls who are all around us. Meet at the visitor center at 7:30pm.

Explore 4 historic ammunitions bunkers, where sorry souls are trapped…they are looking forward to a visit from you, they are so lonely.

Donation requested: Adults and young people 15 and older, $5-10. Children, Free.

This is an all-ages event, though some of the attractions may be more suited to the 13 and older crowd, and they will be marked.

Outdoor displays, and maybe even a few zombies to assist you if you happen to get lost...
